The Chairman of the Leading Brands of Spain Forum, José Luis Bonet, took part in the conference titled “Cities and Global Events”, organised by Unidad Editorial and held in Madrid on 23 June. The event brought together representatives of different Spanish cities and the Italian city of Milan with journalists, experts and representatives of brands including the chairmen of our members Atlético de Madrid, Enrique Cerezo; Garrigues, Antonio Garrigues; and USP Hospitales, Gabriel Masfurroll.
Every large event leaves an imprint on the host city. Hosting a great sporting event like the Olympic Games, a large-scale exhibition and innovation event like an Expo and a cultural showcase on the scale of the European Capital of Culture can help to develop a city in many fields – international image, economy, innovation, culture, sports, integration and architecture, among others. For this reason the competition among cities to host a large event is increasingly fierce.
The conference saw debates held on strategies, experiences, interests and the leading players in each setting in order to understand motives for the almost passionate interest in large-scale events and particularly to understand how to manage them before, during and after they are held so that the results will be genuinely positive in the host city.
Among the city councils represented were those of Madrid, Milan, Zaragoza, Alcalá de Henares, Burgos, Córdoba, Santander, Cáceres, Bilbao and Valencia.
