On 24 November, the newspaper Expansión published a report entitled "Formulas for sale in the UK", that detailed the main views and opinions of those participating in the debate that Leading Brands of Spain Forum held at the Madrid headquarters of ESADE,on the situation of Spanish brands in the UK .
The article opened with a general reflection by Josep Francesc Valls, Head of the ESADE Marketing Department and chair of the debate. Vals affirmed that in the UK an old-fashioned view of Spain lives on such as the Opera of Carmen, a bleak past and a turbulent history. As a society, they continue to think about a traditional Spain but Spanish-English business relationships work very well".
Nevertheless, during the debate the most obvious examples of recent investments by Spanish brands in the UK came up, such as Iberdrola’s purchase of Scottish Power and Banco Santander’s acquisition of Abbey, which were seen as a rupture of this cliché and outdated image.
Participants in the debate included the Director of International Expansion for Neck & Neck, María Zamácola, the European Expansion Coordinator for Cortefiel, Marta Gil, the partner in charge of Garrigues London office, Guillermo Muñoz Alonso, the CEO of Interbrand, Gonzalo Brujó, the General Manager for the Lladró Commercial Division, Sergi Ramírez, and the General Manager of the Leading Brands of Spain Forum, Miguel Otero.
