ICEX'S BRANDS PLAN
ICEX extends the deadline for 2007 Brand Plan applications until 31st October
The Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade (ICEX) has decided to extend the deadline for the submission of applications for the 2007 Support Plan for Spanish Brands by one month, until 31st October 2007. The programme was launched in 2003 and is open to all Spanish companies with an international brand and business strategy. This is the first year that the Leading Brands of Spain Association is involved in a promotional and advisory capacity. One of the main novelties of this year’s Brand Plan is the increase in contributions towards actual expenditure, which has been raised up to 30%, and up to 35% for countries that have been earmarked as a priority by the Secretary of State for Trade (China, India, Russia, the USA, Mexico, Japan, Brazil, Morocco, Algeria, Turkey and Korea).

Presentation of the New Support Plan for Spanish Brands
ICEX and the Leading Brands of Spain Forum (FMRE) have agreed to intensify the collaboration between them by working together on the latest edition of the “Support Plan for Spanish Brands”. Both the agreement and the plan were presented publicly on 13th June, coinciding with the Exporta 2007 congress in Seville. Pedro Moriyón, Managing Director of Promotion at the Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade (ICEX) and Miguel Otero, General Manager of the Leading Brands of Spain Forum were in charge of announcing an agreement under which AMRE will work with ICEX on the advice, promotion and evolution of these plans; and which could also result in possible reforms and improvements in the future.

FINBRAND
FINBRAND, COFIDES’ new funding line for the internationalisation of Spanish brands
The Spanish Development Funding Company (COFIDES), in collaboration with the Leading Brands of Spain Forum (FMRE), has introduced a new line of funding (FINBRAND) to promote the internationalisation of Spanish brands. Accordingly, Spanish companies marketing important brands can avail of medium to long-term financing for their expansion projects and plans abroad.

LAW OF BRANDS
The New Brand Act (17/2001 of 7th of December)
In 2001 the Spanish Parliament passed the New Brand Act Bill, a regulation on which the Leading Brands of Spain Forum had been working actively in order to ensure it provided special protection for leading brands. The Act has introduced an important initiative, in that this is the first time the Spanish legal order includes a legal definition of a leading brand, separate from the well-known brand definition, and this represents an important step forward with respect to similar regulations in other European countries.
